A couple weeks ago we told you that a cool new TV Show was coming to the Travel Channel with industry icon, and crazy man, Corky Coker as the headliner. That show is Backroad Gold, both figuratively and literally, because we’ve seen the first episode now and it’s damn cool. How did we see it first? Well, there are some times when this job actually makes us look cool, rather than like weirdos. Well for me anyway. Brian is still an unknown. But back to the show. It’s cool. It’s wacky. It’s fun. There is more info below.
You know we’ve done some TV stuff over the years, and have bitched and moaned like none other about the fact that everyone out there is doing all these pickers and barn find shows but none of them are specifically about cars, trucks, and automobilia. Well that has all changed! We’re proud to introduce Backroad Gold. Coker Tires own Corky Coker, along with his son in law Greg, are traveling the back roads of the United States looking for cool stuff hidden in barns and fields that they might be able to make a deal on and drag home. I happen to know Corky, and a bunch of his friends, who do this on a regular basis so this is not some made up TV drama thing. It’s his real life. The new show is going to be coming to the Travel Channel on Wednesday February 5th at 9:30 pm and you need to tune in and watch.
We’re going to watch for sure, and will have a LIVE CHAT Window right here in this blog item so that you guys can watch with Brian and I and talk about the show or anything else you want.

No thanks …. I’d rather watch paint dry … or the Reel to Reel turning round and round .. both being more enjoyable , entertaining and edifying than what this promises to be

There is The American Car Prospector…. and yeah, that show is worthless. I saw the promo above for this show the other day… and I’m not encouraged. But I will give it a shot. It is what I do, without the buying and flipping cars.

This is such crap. If you are a gray hair you’ll love it. But for us youngins it is going to totally destroy our culture. It’s crap. Just like every reality show that hits the screen. It doesn’t have the meat and potatoes to really be a good show. It’s a time killer. Totally a waste of time. There are tons of shows like this out there that have such fake reality in them. I used to like to watch reality shows long time ago but now they’re more scripted than wrastlin. I wish they’d leave us hillbillies alone and go do some show on how rich people buy cars. So much of the preview even sucked. Sorry but I just don’t care for it. Why don’t they do something different puts a better spin on our car culture? Slowly TV is killing the car culture and every john on the coach is a expert……….

I hate to say it but I hate shows like this. Corky Coker might be a really nice guy but lets face it he’s another rich guy buying up what is left of the American Dream. It’s guys and shows like this that have driven the price of these old cars through the freaking roof. It used to be nice to think you cold buy an old car and have fun but those days are long gone. Such a sad shame. Maybe one day the bottom will fall out of this a little and all the rich guys putting notches in their belts will finally go play golf.

They shot these episodes last summer. They arranged a visit to Chuck Smith’s place in TN. He said one of my cars is in the background of the footage they shot. The whole thing got cut short because of rain. We’ll see. It sounded like the producers pre-arranged SOME stuff but Corky mostly winged it while the cameras were rolling.

Corky is the real deal. Anyone who has a chance to see his collection or visit Honesty Charley in Chattanooga should do it. it will make your head explode to see it. When it comes to chasing barn finds, no one has been doing it longer or with more passion than Corky. Can’t wait to see the show.

I think it will play out like the other commercial laden shows .It is just gearhead bait.
