We truly dig what the Coffeyville Street Drags is all about: an eighth-mile of roadway, with barriers up for safety, ran like an old-school dragstrip, complete with human starter. With local government support, racers that run hard but smart, and crowds that turn up for every event, it sounds like a great way to kill an evening in an otherwise quiet American town, doesn’t it? Well…if you’re here reading, it probably sounds like heaven. This is the All Motor Class, and the rules are simple: 10.5 slick is the biggest tire allowed, no aftermarket suspensions or tube frames (subframe connectors are cool), the exhaust must be muffled and must exit past the rear axle, and one other thing…no power adder, period. Not even unhooked nitrous lines. This is a put up or shut up class for everybody who decries bottle babies and boost…and you’ll see a couple of the locals who can back up the all-motor claim with some seriously solid runs. The Malibu in particular looks savage as it torques up one side of the body at launch!
Gotta love it. No pump chumps, bottle babies or fuel fools heaving their guts all over the track every other run with the true racers hung out to dry twiddling their thumbs in the lanes. Side benny is absence of rice burners… perfect! Also no stupid starting light burn down wars. Am I the only one who hates that crap?
another issue of “stupid human tricks” by useless carbon units in Kansas.
flag starter….axle breaks on car and turns toward flag starter. oops, we need another flag starter. wonder if the town’s insurance company will pay for any deaths to stupid racers or spectators.
just plain stupid.
I think you’re on the wrong website bill. I seriously can’t believe you’re brave enough to leave the house every day.
Fun racing… yeah there’s some danger, but most really fun things involve it in one shape or form.
Don’t want it? Don’t go. It’s simple.
And who says “Street Outlaws” TV show hasn’t made a huge impact on our sport.
Have to agree with Bill on one point. So simple to rig up a simple starting light and take the danger of the human starter out of the equation. I does however look like fun and people seem to enjoy watching.
