Australian $2K Challenge: Building Up The Calais And Falcon XR6!

Sticking with a $2,000 build budget is a strong restriction when all you want to do is go as fast as possible. Two grand? Do you know just how fast you can blow through that budget? The struggle isn’t spending the money, the struggle is being exceptionally picky about where each little cent goes and working your skills to keep from having to spend any money at all. Those that are good can use the skills of a silver-tongued devil to charm their way into machine work, or some small bits needed for the car. Those that don’t hate low-buck challenges. (No, that’s not a tear. It’s…allergies. Damn pollen.)

Street Machine is in the middle of a two-grand challenge of their own right now, using 1990s sport sedans of choice: a Holden Calais with the Holden 5.0L V8, and a Ford Falcon XR6 with an inline-six. The cars were cheap used-car auction finds, and both have already been run on the strip, with the Falcon taking the first victory in the challenges ahead after Scotty, the man behind the Ford’s build, did a little impromptu tweaking that might not have been 100% kosher. For this episode, both teams get to work…and Bubba, the ringleader of the Holden build, has a special gift for Scotty after the dragstrip incident.
