Don’t ever say that racers won’t help out when the need is present! Racers help the community, they help each other out, they will do whatever they can when the need presents itself. Case in point: the helpful jet dragster operator that was attending the NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals last weekend. You see, some fellow racers had set up a pallet bonfire and apparently, nobody in that crowd had a lighter or matches that were worth a darn. Ok, they actually they did have some stuff to fire the wood up with but it was way cooler when Forrest Lucas offered the use of the Lucas Oil jet car to do the job. This the bonfire at the famed “Camp Pallet” in the Brainerd Zoo.
This is Minnesota…we aren’t saying that it’s that cold out in August, but seeing temperatures below 50 degrees Fahrenheit during the nighttime hours isn’t all that uncommon, either. So you get the best of both worlds: a bit of crisp air and a fire to roast a weenie or to brown up some marshmallows for s’mores. That’s when a competitor in a jet dragster just had to help out the crowd who were on the verge of giving up and eating cold marshmallows. With the exhaust of the machine aimed squarely at the bonfire, a couple of quick pops proved to be more than enough to warm up the entire group!
Ok, we don’t doubt that the crowd was warmed up by the flames any, but we are surprised by one thing: the bonfire went absolutely nowhere. There should’ve been a pallet a quarter-mile from there, smoldering.
(Thanks to Damien Busbridge for the tip!)
