Recently, Newbern and his girlfriend Chantell were in California and decided that instead of getting on their scheduled flight back home to Georgia, they were going to grab a rental car and drive it all the way home to Georgia, covering as much of Route 66 as possible. Now if you have never been on Route 66, you are missing out as I’ve done the trip multiple times in multiple hot rods, and on multiple drag and drives. In fact, the first Drag and Drive to travel Route 66 was Race Week a few year’s ago and we’ve been on it several times since. But not all of Route 66 is still drivable, so you do have to take some detours along the way. With that said, it is still totally worth it and fun trip for sure so I get the appeal for Dave and Chantell to get out on the road.
In this video they start the trip in Santa Monica, California and head east with a goal of stopping and seeing everything they possibly could along the route. But do they make it? Does it take WAY longer than they think when stopping and hanging out and having fun along the way? Sort of, and yes.
Here’s the video.
Video Description:
On this episode, I decide to cancel my flight home from California and do something I have always wanted to do, drive Route 66. We start in Santa Monica, CA where Route 66 ends and drive east. We stay on the original route (whats left of it) and try an see all the land marks that are still standing. We make it to Amarillo, TX and decide we flat out don’t have enough time to make it home and finish our journey on Route 66. We then travel south to see some friends in San Antonio, TX before bolting back home by Friday night. We plan on picking back up on the route in Amarillo at a later date and drive something far cooler than a rental car.
