Blowing Off Steam: Why Cut A Volvo In Half? To Have Fun…Why Else?

Blowing Off Steam: Why Cut A Volvo In Half? To Have Fun…Why Else?

Every now and then, I get to the point where I just need to blow off some steam. I’ve done it, you’ve done it, we’ve all done it. Stress relief is a healthy thing, and it never hurts to have a little fun to break up the monotony or to re-energize. When the Imperial’s engine build hit a roadblock, I took the limo out and did a burnout (a sad, pathetic one-legger affair). I’ve done everything from just turning on some good music to taking the leftover watermelons from my garden nobody wanted and breaking out the twelve-gauge to send them on their way. I live far enough in the sticks, I’m ok doing that. And I’ve done something like what you’ll see here.

One of the projects that the Hoonigan crew wanted to do was to build a caster car. Essentially, take a front-drive machine, keep everything from the front seats forward, cut everything else off, and have a blast. It’s about as irresponsible as it gets, and it’s about pointless too. But some days, it’s just necessary and it might stir up some creative juices. Don’t believe me? Consider this an exercise in unconventional engineering: after cutting away just about all of the structural integrity of an automobile, figure out how to add it back with half the car and one set of tires missing. For the driver, figure out how to make the power and steering unit, now the only thing controlling vehicular direction, work for you instead of against you. The safety crew will have their hands full, and if you have anybody who needs practice with a torch, a death wheel grinder or a Sawzall, now is the perfect chance to give them some much-needed practice.

And you came in thinking this video was all about automotive based delinquency, didn’t you?
