Classic YouTube: Mini 2WD Pulling Trucks From Boston!

Normally, when it comes to truck pulls, I’m front and center for the 2WD pulling trucks. That’s where you get the screaming V8 running at RPMs that only NASCAR drivers and the ultimate driving delinquents dare to tread while the front end is hanging high in the air and the rear tires are digging their way to China. Nothing against unlimited tractors or any other particular class, but it’s the same kind of violence that I normally expect whatever kind of automotive discipline I’m near. But this is a new one for me, because I’ve never seen a Mini 2WD truck in action anywere…not on the television, not in person and until five minutes before I started writing this, not even on the internet.

Your ears will tell you what the rules are all about: four cylinder or V6 only, running a 26-12.00 x 12 turf or lug tire with a 5×4.5 bolt-space wheel on the back, weighing in at 2,900 pounds. Since there are a plethora of small trucks from the mid-1970s forward, it’s not difficult to find something with the right engine and building it should be a straightforward affair for a pulling team. I gotta say, I’m liking what I see here because this is approachable. Can you find a four-cylinder S-10 or Ranger that you aren’t bothered about and want to make a rip or two with a sled attached? Want to fill the area with the sound of angry hornets while you do it? You can make jokes about this being a toy truck class, but these little pickups are pretty damn capable in my eyes!
