1997…things were getting better for the automotive world. The C5 Corvette had come out and was impressing auto journalists with it’s new LS1 V8. The Dodge Viper GTS was the poster car of the season in blue with white stripes. And SLP Engineering was in their second contracted year cranking out Super Sport Camaros and Firebird Firehawks. 1997 also coincided with the 30th anniversary of the Camaro, so to do something a bit special, 108 Camaros with the Super Sport package and the 30th Anniversary white with Hugger Orange stripes were yanked off of the line for a little something special. The LT-1 V8, in it’s last year of F-body use, was yanked out and in place was LT-4, last seen in the 1996 Corvette Grand Sport. Running a potentially underrated 330 horsepower and 340 ft/lbs of torque, the LT-4 powered Camaro was a true kick in the ass compared to even the standard Camaro SS. Not only was the redline up a thousand RPMs compared to the LT-1, but the suspension had been tweaked to play along with the newfound power. Unfortunately, most of these Camaros were squirreled away as instant collectors items, which is a damn shame in our eyes…in 1997, this was the poster car not for the typical car-loving kid…the Viper was a great suit for that role…but for the developing depraved gear head. Small wonder why I’d still want to unleash one?
The LT4 was not 32 valve. You have confused it with the LT5 from the C4 ZR-1 Corvette.
Yes, I did. Thank you for the correction!
No problem!
The one in the main picture is not an LT4 engined car as i believe they were all coupes, to my knowledge no convertible or t bar cars came with the LT4 engine
