Close Enough: Here’s How Wicked Cars Are Put Into Video Games Accurately!

From the moment that Gran Turismo got unwrapped, thrown into the PlayStation and I proceeded to whip ass with the 1967 Chevrolet Corvette 427, racing cars via a video game has been a natural motion for me. When Gran Turismo hit the scene, it was super-real and the best thing ever. I’ve played Gran Turismo recently…no, it was not real. What is a realistic racing game? Eh..you can look at iRacing, Forza, and what have you. Or you can look at games like Wreckfest, Grand Theft Auto and the Burnout seres and see where a balance between a real game and a real fun game come into being. Look, I enjoy Forza. I enjoy the 1993 Mustang Cobra that I use to drift around Lime Rock with. I also enjoy ripping around the deserts of Blaine County in my Vapid Imperator until I inevitably wreck the sucker bad enough to have to abandon it among the cactus, or kicking the teeth in on a car that is easily identifiable as a 1977 El Camino in a pit full of lunatics trying to bash me into oblivion.

Especially now that winter is settling in (nevermind other reasons), video games are going to be a great source of relief for the weeks and months ahead. You’ll get to drive cars you’d never otherwise drive in situations that would leave you in jail, injured or dead, and you’ll walk away without a scratch. But how does a car go from real life to the pixelated world? Hear all about it from those who do the behind-the-scenes work.
