Crash And Burn Video: Jeep Carnage For Your Monday Viewing Pleasure

With the exception of a quick blast down a dirt road or two in one of my Subarus the majority of my hooning around has been on asphalt, but that’s not to say that I don’t envy the 4×4 guys and gals and their “See that? I want to climb it” attitude towards anything steep, rocky, and/or muddy.

Drag racers, autocrossers, and road racers can brag all they want about busted motors and crashes, but in some ways they’ve got nothing on the off-road crowd, especially the ones that go way off trail in their excursions: “Oh, you blew a tire at the track and had to have some safety officials and a tow truck drag you several hundred feet back to your trailer? I just blew a bead while stuck in two feet of mud and we’re miles away from the nearest paved road”. That’s not to say that a high speed crash on pavement isn’t serious business of course, but 4×4 guys treat a rollover as just another reason to use that new winch and continue on with their day.

One of my favorite moments is hanging out with a bunch of my buddies that are into Jeeps and watching a guy roll over his girlfriend/wife’s “new to them” Cherokee within five minutes of hitting the trail, if only because her response was a calm, “Well, guess it’s time for an exo-cage”. To top it off, they finished up the day, crinkled roof and all. Now that’s dedication.

Pissing match between on and off-road enthusiasts aside, it does take a special kind of crazy to be a 4×4 enthusiast, as can be seen in this video montage of Jeeps and other 4x4s flipping, rolling over, and generally getting all sorts of banged up.

The clips themselves range from “Wow, that sucks” to “Whoa, is everyone alright?!?”, especially in the one or two where the driver is stupid enough to have their dog in the vehicle with them. Luckily, the dogs themselves seem to be more nimble than their owners and vacate the area before anything really bad happens, but seriously, let your dog out before trying to scale that next vertical. It’s not their fault that you ran out of talent three-quarters of the way up.

WORK WARNING: There is some swearing involved at times, so keep the volume down or don a set of headphones while watching.
