As the NHRA season opener Winternationals is underway today in Pomona, we thought it would be appropriate to show our pal Jack Beckman’s 2012 Pomona explosion that happened mere months ago at the NHRA World Finals in Pomona. This is one of the most concussive explosions we’ve ever seen. NHRA put this video out and we’ve got it from all the good angles, so check it out for yourself. We talked to Beckman about this explosion a few weeks ago and he said it was crazy scary for some really strange reasons, but only in that it startled the hell out of him because it exploded right as he was moving his hand toward the fuel and chutes, so it was like “Kaboom” “Oh crap, what did I just do”, even though it was NOT his fault. But it was spectacular. As I am fond of saying, “If you can’t win the dough, be the show.” Lucky for Jack, he did both at Pomona, where he won the 2012 NHRA Funny Car Championship!
