Insane Video: Axles Ejected From Drag Car… WITH THE AXLE HOUSING!!!!

In response to the video of Brandon Snider launching the driveshaft out of his ADRL Pro Extreme car, someone sent us a link to one that trumps that in a big way. I say someone because Brian just sent me the link right before going to bed and said “Hey can you slam this up for first thing in the morning. It’s epic.” I said sure and have no idea who to give credit to. Whoever it is, thanks a lot. This video is incredible. Well, not the video itself, but what is happening in it for sure. You’ll watch it at least twice. Maybe three times.

And how does this happen anyway? What part failed first? I’m really not sure. But I would have loved to have been there to investigate.

thats an Aussie clip because the ute that lost the complete diff housing and wheels looks like a WB Holden ute

I would have said some fluid under the rear wheels (from the smoke/steam) then the back end hits the guardrail, breaking the rearend mounts, then the sideways slide breaks them some more and out comes the axle…???

Hard to tell for sure, but I would guess the track locater broke when he tagged the wall, and then once the rear end was free to sway, it just started snapping heim joints.

I was Carlsbad Raceway standing behind the barrier when a ’57 Chevy with a big block launched the rear end completely out of the car. Less than 50 feet away. The funniest part was the driver/owner getting out of the car and throwing his helmet down on the ground. Picking it back up, and throwing it down again. About 4 or 5 times all together. This was way back in the ’80s so no video, but it was gnarly to watch.

Aus or NZ judging by the hardware. Nice to see a Mk1 Capri running hard; hope it has a FoMoCo powerplant still 😀
