Let’s just get this part out of the way right now: Derek is one lucky…um…guy. Why? I speak from experience when I say that finding a beauty who tolerates the car hobby is a gift, finding one who is into the scene is a surprise, and finding one that will get down and dirty in the shop with wrenches and all is nothing short of a god-send. You all can determine where he falls on the spectrum as he and Jessica get to work on tearing apart their Chevrolet 3+3 crew-cab square-body. Gutting out a 1970s era GM isn’t a big deal…lots of Philips screws, seat bolts, seat belts bolts, and floor coverings come out and you’re done. Except, Derek has one problem that he’s constantly battling: the unfriendly conditions that the northern states offer 1970s sheet metal. This dude deals in rust on a daily basis, and while the Chevy is a lot better than some of the other projects he’s had, there’s still some iron cancer to deal with…at least most of the floor is straightforward fixes and doesn’t involve the phrase “all of it”.
This C20 is destined to run the 2020 Hot Rod Power Tour, so work will be progressing. If you have interest in square-bodies or just want to see how this one will turn out with Jessica calling a lot of the shots on this build, this should be a series to pay attention to. Apparently the Rust Avengers are all rolling again this year…we know that Dylan McCool’s Challenger project is slated to go, and there’s a couple others that we’re aware of that are in the works. Still wondering what a couple of the others are bringing, though!
