Ok, the upcoming TVR Griffith might not be in the BangShift area of view normally, but there is a reason why we have been paying attention to the new car. One, it’s a combination of Gordon Murray, Cosworth, and two guys hell-bent on salvaging the British nameplate associated with cars that thrilled you just as much as they scared you. And that’s a rare thing in the world nowadays…the cars that can bite back have either passed on, in the case of the Viper, or have been neutered, in the case of just about everything else. Secondly, what part of “Cosworth 5.0L Coyote” sounds like a bad idea? With a reasonable 500 horsepower mark in a light two-seater car, the engine should be a solid runner, but we’ve only been going on gut instinct and educated guesses, since all we have seen of the car has been still photography until this video appeared yesterday.
The man behind the wheel is Les Edgar, one of the two guys who helped revive TVR, and the story goes that he insisted at a crack behind the wheel of the car in the Gordon Murray Design parking lot. Can you blame him for wanting to drive the car he helped bring to life? If it was us, we’d want to see it too. The Griffith sounds just about as we’d expect…snotty, even at idle, from side pipes jutting low behind the front wheels…but it’s Edgar’s reactions just from a quick throttle tip-in that makes us smile.
