I’m not that old. I grew up with three types of go-karts: the kind you found in a tourist trap that were asphalt-based and might have done 25 MPH on a good day, the ones with three-wheeler tires that were few and far between, and whatever haphazard collection of metal and flammable liquids my friends and I were able to slam together at a moment’s notice. (Ok, if you’re being picky, yes the riding lawnmower technically counts as a fourth.) Then there’s UTVs, side-bys or whatever you call ’em. Caught somewhere between a kid’s go-kart and a full-fledged Baja Bug, these little screamers are just about everything you need in a car: an engine with power, a steering wheel, and the ability to bounce off of God-knows-what at full tilt. So what kind of challenge would a hill climb with a few friends post to a fleet of racers who normally fling these machines up cliffs? Depends on who is racing next to you. Rubbin’ is racin’, don’t ever forget that, and never, ever just think that it’s a simple hill!
