The beauty of an all-electric powerplant is that all of the torque is available immediately. Hit the button and whatever the number is hits the drive wheels right now. Cars like the “White Zombie” Datsun and the Zombie 222 Mustang have proven that electric vehicles can haul some serious ass, even with the added weight of the battery packs needed to run them. And never mind Tesla’s “Ludicrous” mode that is responsible for little old ladies swearing like drunken sailors. Electric vehicles can run hard, but top speed…that’s something else, right?
Nope. What you are seeing is a 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 that has been converted to full electric and renamed the Genovation GXE (Genovation Extreme Electric). Genovation punted the 7.0L LS out of the engine bay in favor of batteries, inverters and witchcraft that they claim is now good for 700 horsepower and 600 ft/lbs of torque. The 150 mile range might be more important to fans of electric vehicles, but for us, we want proof that the GXE is worth it’s salt…and here it is: 186.8 miles an hour at the three mile long Shuttle Landing Facility in Florida.
You want ludicrous speed? Sit in the passenger seat of this Corvette and prepare to see plaid.
Lose the soundtrack…
Electric cars have no soul……
I’m wondering if they sun the motor that fast or resorted to gearing.
Sounds like my vacuum cleaner. No thanks, no way, no how, no no no.
