Most of our regular readers will expect that this blog item would come from Brian rather than Chad, but the truth is we both dig watching cool old motors run, even if it is on diesel. The engine in this particular video happens to be an Enterprise DSG-36 which looks to us like an engine that would have been in a train or something. The history of Enterprise Engine and Foundry isn’t very clear, but we do know that this 6 cylinder has a bore of 12 inches and a stroke of 15 inches. That’s over 10,000 cubic inches folks. We dig it, although it would be a bitch to fit in a hot rod.
The video shows the beast being started for the first time in 30 years, and if you look closely you will see that the “valve covers” have been taken off and you can see the rockers moving while the engine is running. There is something so cool about an engine this old and simple. We dig it.

That’s just Cool. But I had to laugh at the old dog – the look on his face is pure WTF then he’s not sure if he should make a run for it or stay ,then in the end he’s outa there LOL.
I’ve got a old dog and every time a car is started with open pipes it’s the same look – gotta love em.
That engine is just plain cool – I’m sure the neighbours would love it every sunday morning.
I remember that chugging sound from a NG pumping station about 1/2 mile away when I was a kid back in the 50’s. They had huge engines running those pumps and large fuel tanks outside..
love the fuel tank trailer too
That dog had to take a shit on it first, then just walked around ,and looked @ it like you got my favorite dump spot to run, good thig it ain’t on wheels it would have been gone, then it would have took 2 miles to get it to wind down after you shut it off I’m rebuilding a CAmaro, and it will for sure be using dyna force, and MSD parts on it!!!!!
There is one of those engines about 10 or 15 miles from me that the guy starts at events at his place, Then the property went up for sale but the engine was not part of the deal and would be added money if you wanted it to stay.
trains and parts
genni
Love that …but this engine is still the best on the tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_0xifuTqVA&feature=share&list=PLUmUvlneIi9O84NjmVyikRzpQVJg-Vs36
I think these guys need to have a safety moment, no eye protection, not hard hat, and non-essential personnel are present…
Sounds great. But I think only one or two cylinders are firing. Other wise you would not hear the heavy thud of the one cylinder keeping the rest going up and down. The flywheel keeps it going with only one or two firings keeping the momentum up.
A lot of those old engines only run on a couple cylinders until you throttle them up. Saved fuel when idling.
