Barney Kinsey sent us the link to this one yesterday, and we couldn’t be happier that he did, but at the same time it’s a little sad to see these iconic drag cars leaving Bob Riggles’ care. Up for auction at the Mecum Auction in Illinois is not one, but four, Hemi Under Glass cars, including the 1966, 1967. 1968. and 1969 Plymouth Barracudas we have all grown to love. That’s right, the Illinois Mecum Auction Features 4 Hemi Under Glass Cars, and you could own them all! All are in excellent condition as you can see in the video below, and are icons that any car guy would love to own. If you have not been lucky enough to see one or more of these cars running down a drag strip near you, I am sorry. It’s a treat that I will admit I probably haven’t appreciated enough, although I feel incredibly lucky to have seen these cars run dozens of times.
Current owner Bill Sefton has never been the type of owner that just sat around looking at his pretty cars. He has been down the track in these cars, and as you’ll see in the video he says he does not have the skill to drive them. Bill hopes that the new owners will cherish the brand and the icons as much as he has. Bob Riggles does say in the video that he will train the new owner if they want to learn how to drive one of these cars. Will someone buy them and take them on the road? Or will someone buy them and offer Riggles a job driving and maintaining them for even longer?
We’ll see when the Mecum Auction features all four Hemi Under Glass cars at their auction in Illinois the weekend of October 10-12.

Coming soon to a private warehouse in Dubai…
The first Drag Car I saw was the Hurst Hemi Under Glass at Goodwood Festival of Speed, the first time Bob Riggle ran at Goodwood in 2001. Ever since then I’ve always had an affection for it, and all things drag racing.
