Step into the WABAC machine with us and take a look at this gem! The 1966 Mercury Comet is a very handsome car in person. Having moved from the compact Falcon platform to the intermediate Fairlane, the Comet had grown some and was changing into the muscle car that buyers were clamoring for. In order to sell them properly, Lincoln-Mercury had to come up with a catchy advertisement campaign that would get the attention of all of the youth market that the manufacturers were suddenly paying attention to, and what better way to do that than with the perfect story of a pair of spies? Yes, spies…Russian spies, breaking into the showroom to take a Mercury Comet Cyclone GT out for a spin, and maybe a race on a lovely Sunday afternoon. You’ll have a couple of hep cats in a 1965 Comet pouring over the bright red machine, some of the worst Russian accents heard since Gorbachev was in office, cops in Mad Men suits, the hard nose detective in a hat, and of course, fireworks, because why the hell not?

Funny, I remember Natasha Fatale having black hair, but there will be an explanation at the end of the video. The only way this commercial could be any more wacky is if Rocky and Bullwinkle popped out of the trunk while Peabody and Sherman danced in the background to Peanuts music.
