First thing’s first: everyone survived. Which is pretty amazing considering what you’re witnessing.
Police in Santiago, Chile were attending to a crash where a drunk driver struck a police car. A fire truck and a Eurocopter EC-135 were part of the response. The fire truck got too close to the helicopter, and while it isn’t clear what exactly happened, the tail folded up and the main body started to rotate. The Eurocopter started to spin, struck a police car and, well, just hit play below to see what happened next…
Five people ended up in the hospital: the drunk that started everything, three police officers in the patrol car the helicopter hit, and the pilot himself. It’s difficult to tell if the pilot was trying to do anything with the controls, but it’s most likely that once the tail folded up, that he was simply along for the ride.
