Some garages hold better toys than others, that’s for sure. You see that picture and the lead shot for the video, so let’s get straight to the point: it’s another Chevrolet-swapped Ferrari 250 GT/E, and the rig it’s sitting on, a 1971 American LaFrance, is a retired fire truck turned monster custom car hauler. We’ve seen Chevy-swapped Ferraris of this vintage before, and the story is usually the same: a more common 250 GT/E would be raided for it’s Coloumbo V-12 and other parts that were needed for an even rarer Ferrari, like a 250 GTO, and the GT/E would be left a picked-over shell. Not a pleasant end for such a special car, is it?
Gary Briggs is the owner of both of these machines, and he’s got an interesting take on how they exist in his world. The Ferrari is a driver’s car. It’s not a showpiece. It’s not time to panic if the underside of the car sees dirt and dust. But at the same point in time, it’s held in high regard. To Briggs, these are heirlooms, cars he hopes will still be in the family hundreds of years from now. That’s a high point of view for a cross-bred Italian and an old fire truck, but take a look at the video and see why it’s not entirely unwarranted.
Gary Briggs is a sad deluded Chevy Lover who should “sleep with the fishes” for polluting one of Enzo’s fine products. Not only did he perform such hideous surgery he had the unmitigated audacity to besmirch a fine ex-fire truck with such automotive excrement. I just hope there are Ferrari-loving wise guys or made men in his area and they come round to his shop to have a long and painful word with him!
Shame on you Gary Briggs, shame on you!
Well Geordie, of course I hate Chevys too. It’s a Ford guy thing. But in this case the car is quite nicely done. The old Ferrari engine didn’t come with the car and if you have priced them out… a 427 SOHC would be a cheap alternative. But that would take some more hacking on the car to fit. And really if it is not a Ferrari engine it’s a crossbreed and purists won’t like it. I suppose they still wouldn’t like it if it had a modern V12 Ferrari engine which is what i’d prefer.
The truck is very cool !! I’m sure firemen aren’t ordering a hit on him for that.
A Jaguar V12 would have been a much better choice, Tom.
Yeah, if you\’re gonna leave it on the hauler, the Jag V12 would be perfect. You wouldn\’t have to respond to pesky requests to \”hear it run\” and if anyone asks why you don\’t drive it, just thumb over your shoulder at the car and mouth \”Jag V12\” They\’ll understand. If it\’s Jag-You-Are, Moving-You-Aren\’t. I\’m not a big Chevy guy either, but both vehicles are done properly and I\’d be happy if they were mine. I\’d road trip the snot out of that Ferrari.
