Morning Symphony: A Finnish Take On The American Muscle Car

Morning Symphony: A Finnish Take On The American Muscle Car

Ever heard the phrase, “familiarity breeds contempt”? When you are surrounded by everything you desire, it loses a value, an “X factor”…you know it’s still awesome, but it doesn’t excite you quite like it did before. It’s the reason why there was such a pent-up clamor for turbocharged rally rockets and Skylines. They were forbidden fruit, just out of reach, and the moment they became available, those who clamored for one immediately went and snapped one up. In other parts of the world, American cars are that forbidden fruit. Look at what was sold in Europe and Japan, and you can see the appeal…vivid colors, industrial levels of power and the charm that Hollywood has given certain models over the years, and there’s no doubt as to why certain models have made the trip across the oceans and are now being enjoyed in other countries. Finland, especially, has a thriving American car scene and they appreciate the old-school muscle car. Does the brutal nature of a thundering big-block appeal to them, or is it the shape of the body? Ah, who cares…they know a good thing when they see it, and they drive them. Sometimes, they drive the hell out of them. And that’s all we need to know.

Well, that, and that they appreciate the noise they make. Cams, blowers and tortured tires here. Mopar, Ford, and even a rowdy Pontiac Ventura? We’re game.
