Movie Car Chase: Two Scenes From The Movie “Brick Mansions”

Movie Car Chase: Two Scenes From The Movie “Brick Mansions”

Paul Walker might be immortalized with the “Fast and Furious” franchise but while Furious 7 was his final film role, the 2014 film “Brick Mansions” was his final fully-completed film. I’ll be honest: I never watched it. I knew about it, but never watched it. In fact, I probably would have never even have known about the film if it weren’t for the fact that there is a J-body Imperial in the flick. As soon as that came to light, I had plenty of notes and emails letting me know that the car was in the movie. And it’s a nice piece, a red 1981 if IMCDB.org is to be believed. It’s the second time that a J-body Imperial and Paul Walker met on-screen…in Fast and Furious (aka #4), during the desert chase scene that goes into the tunnel, the car that rams into the back of Vin Diesel’s Charger is…you guessed it…an Imperial, one that ends up buying the farm after being spun into a massive tunnel support, before getting hit by an IROC Camaro and an El Camino.

Strangely, the two chase scenes in “Brick Mansions” almost look like I picked the cars. I’m not bragging at all…to be honest, I’m kind of weirded out by it. Let’s take a look: a Chrysler 300 (ok, it’s a V6, but still). An S-197 Mustang, what looks like a Shelby Hertz model. The Imperial that has absolutely no trouble keeping up with an audibly supercharged Shelby Mustang while looking bone-stock. A mid-1960s Chrysler sedan. A 1980s Ford truck, lifted, with an M2 .50 caliber machine gun bed-mounted. A 1972 Plymouth Fury built up to be some kind of demo/killer machine. A G-body Monte Carlo SS. Add in some random junk cars and a couple of Chevrolet vans for crash fodder, and a playground that was incidentally used for some of the race scenes in the 2008 Jason Statham version of “Death Race”, and you’d genuinely wonder if I wrote this whole scene. Freaky…
