When they sold new in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Cadillac Eldorados were the pinnacle of “you made it” automobiles. Between an Eldorado and an Lincoln Continental Mark coupe, these were symbols that you had achieved greatness, and that you needed a two-door the size of a good-length fishing vessel to prove it. Nowadays…well, there’s the ones that are too sweet to mangle, and then there’s…well, this. To be honest, there is precedent for what Fred Williams did to this poor Caddy. General Motors themselves made a twin-engined freakshow out of a front-wheel-drive two-door and it turned out badass. Then again, an all-wheel-drive, 400 horsepower, twin-engined Chevy Citation would have to be pretty cool. There’s also the Mosler TwinStar, a 1990s Eldorado with a second Northstar jammed straight up it’s rear. But neither car have the presence of a 1976 Eldorado drop-top. Combined, they probably don’t even add up to the curb weight of this monster. This was tons of car packing tons of cubic inches…500 cubic inches of big-ass Caddy V8, in fact, connected by the most brutal FWD transaxle ever created. Which means that together, it’s a powertrain. All you need to do is create a cradle, lock the steering straight, and shove it in the trunk, and bam! – instant four-wheel drive. And whoever gave Williams the plans for such a monster, look. Look at what your thoughtlessness created. A monster, with twin transaxles and a homemade continental kit. I hope you’re happy.
