Painting On A Massive Scale: Watch This Timelapse Of An Emirates Boeing 777-200 As It Gets A New Coat!

A typical fully painted Boeing 777 similar to this Emirates 777-200 wears almost a quarter-ton of paint on it’s skin, with a maximum thickness of about 0.005″ across the board. That’s a lot of paint, and that paint isn’t a lifetime deal…if the plane is sold or, in the case of this one, refurbished with a new livery, it’s a strip and re-shoot kind of deal. For a large plane like this, the work takes at least a week, with three shifts working around the clock to do everything from the strip to the final buffing. In person, it’s a massive scale that almost defies belief. But toned down to a time-lapse video like you’ll see here…it’s still a massive scale and still just as impressive. Remember, this is several days’ worth of work that you’ll see go down in a little over four minutes…and Emirates’ liveries are fairly easy. Imagine painting up one of Southwest’s special liveries, like the state flags or the Shamu planes, or even one of the more trick aircraft liveries, such as Air New Zealand’s Dreamliner’s setup with the fern patterns on the body in black and white schemes. Suddenly, spray-bombing that primered beater outside doesn’t seem so bad, now does it?
