Epic 660 Foot Wheelstand Video Of The Rat Trap Fuel Altered At The 2013 California Hot Rod Reunion

Nitro America’s Les Mayhew just sent us the link to this one the other day and we had to share. It’s awesome video from high above the finish line at Famoso Raceway during the 2013 NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion and show the Bradford AA Fuel Altered going up against the famed Rat Trap AA Fuel Altered. They leave the starting line together seriously pissed off, and the Rat Trap has both front wheels hiked up in the air. They touch down for a split second at about 300 feet and are back up in the air until the 1/8 mile when Rat Trap Driver Ron Hope blips the throttle to get the thing to set back down.

Someone should have put the steering wheel on straight too, because Ron has got all kinds of left hand rudder in the thing when the wheels are up in the air which results in some pucker action going on when the car heads toward the wall upon touchdown. All is well that ends, well, but the late chutes also made us nervous. Watch this video over and over again. It’s a great way to get your drag racing fix on a cold winter morning.

That has got to be one of the best races I’ve ever seen. Thank God that thing didn’t get out of the groove too bad and hook left or right!!
