Quain Stott, Greg Porter, Gene Cromer And Gassers Galore At Greer Dragway

Quain Stott, Greg Porter, Gene Cromer And Gassers Galore At Greer Dragway

You’ve seen us run videos of Quain Stott and his ultra bitchin Executioner wheels up Willy’s Gasser on multiple occasions here on BangShift.com, but this might be the best video he has sent us yet. It features nothing but Southeast Gassers, at the final event of 2013, at Greer Dragway in South Carolina. Along with Quain Stott in The Executioner, you’ll also see Greg Porter in The Night Stalker, Gene Cromer in The Moonlighter, and more. What makes this an extra special event is that Gene Cromer drove his newly restored Moonlighter ’41 Willys after 40 years of not racing. At 81 years old he’s still got it and gave it to several of the best running cars at Greer Dragway. In it’s lifetime, The Moonlighter has a 74% win rate. That’s insane.

These cars are great fun to watch, the stories behind them are awesome, and best of all they are almost exclusively old school 4 speed machines. With the front ends in the air, their high winding combos are a treat to watch and listen to. This is what real drag racing is all about, and we’re glad that the crew at Greer Dragway is supporting this series so strongly. We’re jealous that we aren’t out there on the right coast to attend all these races, but thanks to Quain Stott and the gang we’ve got great video to share.

This is a great show, and these guys drive the piss out of their cars. If you are in the area you have to go check it out. I have known several of these guys for many years, and have been going to Greer dragway since I was a kid. Actually went to school with the drivers of the “Bone Shaker” Ford and “Bad Company” 55 Chevrolet. This is a great group of guys and I am happy they are getting some recognition on a national level!

I love the fact that people are coming together and building their hot rods……….and to think all that fun without 13″ billet dics brakes, computers, LS engines, pro touring suspension…….big name aftermarket crap…………

I was raised up with racing at the Starlite Dragway in Ware Shoals, SC. My dad, Melvin Willie Lollis “Flap” ran the gates with the owners, The Gambrell’s for many years. I worked in the concession stand. My uncle Jerry Lollis “Butterbean” worked the tree and middle area. I had an uncle Johnny Lollis and many friends that were racers. I moved away in 1987 and returned here in 2002. I had not been to the track but a few times since moving away. I was into Nascar and NHRA more. I decided when I heard about this race from another great racing legend to me, Gary Burel, I would go. I also went because there was also going to be a car show that many of my friends who are in the car club were attending. I have to say it was the best race I had ever seen on this track. I enjoyed it to the fullest. I got to meet and talk with Gene Cromer and his family and some others. What a great man of God also. I was so stoked, I decided right then, I wanted to go to Greer when they had their gasser race. I thought someone was going with me and at the last minute no one to go, so I went by myself and had a blast. Got to meet so many great people, made new friends and got to see a great show. I want to thank all of the racers for putting on such a great show and keeping this type of racing alive. I am looking forward to 2014. Already making my plans for Union and I am sure, the others when they come around. Thanks for sharing this video also. I see myself in it. Another great way to help remember the memory.

I’m fortunate to live next door to the Legendary Gene Cromer. Me and my dad was there for the race at Greer that day and it was better to me than any national event featuring top fuel drivers. My dad summed the whole day up in one sentence. It was like we stepped back in time. Period correct cars. Legendary talent. Can’t wait until the next one!
