Shawn Nault, Driver of the Arctic Thunder Nostalgia Fuel Funny Car, lost his bravely fought battle with cancer on December 21st. As a member of the drag racing fraternity, he’ll be missed. As a son, a brother, a husband, and a father, he’ll be missed even more. At only 48 years old, Shawn was just getting to the good part of life, and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and fans. As a tribute to Shawn, and the entire Arctic Thunder team, Les Mayhew has put together this short tribute video from the 2013 California Hot Rod Reunion where Shawn last raced. If he knew that he only had two months left, we applaud him for coming out to Famoso Raceway to get his nitro fix one last time.
And while we are sad that Shawn won’t be with us in body, he will most certainly be with us in spirit. A good friend of mine once said, as he strapped me into a racecar for a run, “Remember, you envy no man right now.”
When Shawn last strapped into his Funny Car, he envied no man, because everyone else who has ever dreamed of getting behind the wheel of a nitro burning Funny Car was envious of him. The rest of us can only hope to get the same chance before we leave this big round rock.
Godspeed Shawn.
R.I.P. SHAWN.
RIP nice tribute video
