We’ve seen some sleepers in our day. You know, the car that looks unassuming, but somehow beats everything it lines up against? That’s a sleeper, and this video has got a ton of great ones in it. We’re talking Jeeps, Cavaliers, Minivans, Trucks of all kinds, and even a couple of Volvos! The best part is that most of them don’t look the part at all, even if you take into account that they are usually the “wrong” body style. Which begs the question, how does someone decide to build a sleeper out of something like a Chevy Astro Van. Or how about a Volvo wagon? Is it because that’s what they already had? Or is there more thought that goes into it? I know that I tend to look at weird cars sometimes and think “If that had a turbo LS engine in it, I could kick some serious ass and people wouldn’t have a clue.”
At the same time, there have been times in my life where the cars I owned weren’t necessarily “optimal” drag cars, but I threw them together with what I had and ended up with things that were pretty quick. It’s one of those which came first, chicken or the egg things.

I’ve had a few sleepers blow me into the weeds. And I’ve owned a couple sleepers. The one I liked the best was a 1963 Imperial the I dropped a 426 Hemi in. Even guys that I had took out a couple times fell for it again.
Love the old turbo MOPAR’s! I’ve got an 87 GLHS (not the Omni but the Charger version) and it runs 12.2’s on pump gas!
The Dodge ice cream van is a great idea for a sleeper, also anything that resembles the Griswall station wagon.

The green&white Chevy truck…that one made me smile. Hauls ass, and STILL hauls drywall/pulls a boat/whatever…

Can’t discuss sleepers without a mention of the “farm truck”. Solid ten second passes with a dog riding along.
