It’s been a while since Finnegan and Freiburger brought new vehicles into the Roadkill fleet, let alone a vehicle that they are fully vested into. The Dirt-Track Challenger was opportunity: hit the Mopar Nationals, then the Roadkill Nights drag race on Woodward Avenue within a week or so of each other. That’s just good planning. The Mazdarati, the Mazda RePu with the 455ci big-block in the bed of the truck was probably the last “gotta have it” vehicle the guys picked up, and it was a good call…seriously, who else would that truck have been perfect for?
Some readers have complained that the show is getting too campy and over the top with antics. Not this one. This time around the guys are each getting a vehicle for themselves and will drive it back to the L.A. area. In Finnegan’s case, he’s picking up a Datsun 520 that has been worked over front-to-rear as a mini-truck meets lowrider meets rat rod kind of deal. It’s a mess and awesome all at the same time, and it’s kind of fun trying to guess what body panel is still Datsun and what the other panels are from…it appears to have the tail panel from a 1961 Chevy and the dash from a 1950s Ford, but I may be wrong there. It’s sketchy, it’s slammed, and it’s got exactly zero pieces of glass in the cab, which will make the trek to get the other car much more enjoyable.
The other car is basically Freiburger’s dream car: a 1971 Plymouth Road Runner, complete with a 383 big-block. Back in the 1980s, he used to own a triple-black 440-6 Road Runner of the same vintage, but at some point he ended up selling it. And as you’d expect, he’s been swiftly kicking himself in the backside ever since, and has been hunting for another 1971 ‘Runner for a while now. Luckily, a Roadkill fan had one that was on the market.
Now, the question: which one of these two will break down first?
Yet another episode not worth watching. Not surprised though as they focus on the pay show(s) and through anything together to keep the BRAND alive.
Back in the early 80’s, tried to buy a 71 GTX w/440,4spd,dana60 which was sitting at an apartment complex. Owner never drove the car but wouldn’t sell. always liked the 71-72 body style.
The car wash…. Made me laugh till it hurt. Loved it!
