Whether it’s the panache of the Prancing Horse that does it for you or whether it’s the Miami Vice reference, there is something about the Ferrari Testarossa that seems to hold its own aura away from the vehicles that came out of Maranello. It was a celebrity, a poster car that shared wall space with the likes of the Lamborghini Countach, Jaguar XJS and even its own psychotic sibling, the F40. From the hidden headlights, to the body strakes along the sides, to the taillights hidden behind the louvers, the car is one of, if not the, supercar of the 1980s. For a bonus, the car was actually a peach to drive, with fewer of the temperamental ills that plagued the BB 512i, it’s predecessor. The Testarossa could be driven often with minimal fear of breakdown (note: I said minimal…this is an Italian exotic, after all) and many of them were driven often.
The lucky bloke in this film owns a Testarossa, and it shares a garage with the likes of a Lamborghini Countach and Espada. He likes to drive his cars and have adventures, which means that we already like him. After reading a magazine article where the author drove a Ferrari 512M from Maranello to the Sahara Desert, he decided that he would try the same thing, twenty years later, with his own Testarossa. He documents the whole thing, and yes, that’s dirt and dust all over a Ferrari. You’re along for the ride as Harry takes his car for a bit of a spin…enjoy!
21 MPG in his 12 cylinder Ferrari is pretty cool.
