Now is probably a good time to admit my ignorance of just about any and everything classic Volkswagen. I’ve only driven one, ever (a Karmann Ghia that had it’s seat locked full-forward) and I have no intention of ever going down that road again. There is something about Bugs, Buses, Squarebacks and Karmann Ghias that just doesn’t do it for me. But I can appreciate one when it’s capable. AZN’s “Dung Beetle” is one of those cars, and so is Joel Mohr’s 1964 VW. Mohr is one of the VW world’s gurus…just putting his name into a Google search brings up many testaments to his wizardry with the flat-four powered People’s Car. But it’s this car, “Quick’N Dirty”, that we are going to focus on, because it’s done the amazing: wheelie on Hoonigan’s loading dock. The challenge is simple: hang the tires as high as you can on the dock without crashing out. Traction seems to be an issue for many hopefuls, but Mohr just keeps airing down the rear slicks until the Bug rears up and points the nose towards the sky. And just to make sure that he stands as the man, he offers up a challenge: if anyone does a better launch than this, he will come back down and go even harder. Judging from this video, though, that means he’s going to have to force a blow-over…
