Felix Wankel was a genius of a man, but whether he knew or not the capability his design would have went with him to the grave in 1988. Surely, he had to know…Between NSU and Mazda, rotary-powered vehicles had been around for decades prior to his passing. The combination to making a Wankel engine produce solid power is well-known: turbocharging does wonders. Lots of boost into the Dorito machine makes for a high-revving ripsaw of a mill and in the right car, can easily hurt a lot of feelings. In keeping with the tradition of actually racing damn near anything they can get their hands on, this purple Mazda RX-8 is an Australian creation, whipped up by Promaz Racing. When the daily grind involves boosting the power out of Mazda mills, that naturally bleeds over into the fun you have outside of work, and there’s no doubt here that the Promaz team have their combination dialed in just how they like it!
