In their annual tradition of giving a junkyard-bound beater the ultimate sendoff, the Sloppy Mechanics turned their tools onto a car that coincidentally enough, has a relevant feature for BangShift: A Buick Regal GS from the early 2000s. Our own James Pringle, aka BBR, is putting one together for Thunder Valley Raceway’s “Junkyard Wars”, which is the drag racing equivalent of ChumpCar, and we figured that this video, taken by Regular Car Reviews, can show him just how potent the 3.8L mill can actually be. Sure, from the factory they were supercharged and a tweak here and there could have it knocking on the door of the high twelve second range, but if it’s an all-out run it until it blows kind of deal, why not add a big-ass turbo for compound forced induction, and nitrous…well, just because, really? This 280,000 mile terminally ill Regal puts up one hell of a fight and some decent figures on the dyno before things take a turn for the seriously ugly. As one commenter on the video put it best: “Do not go gently into that good night, Rage, Rage against that check engine light.”
