The Wintertime Crawl: A Trek Through The Woods Of An Old Junkyard

The Wintertime Crawl: A Trek Through The Woods Of An Old Junkyard

There is something peaceful and serene about an old junkyard. I’m not talking something like an LKQ or anything like that, no. I mean an honest-to-God old yard, the kind that has been in business for decades without much change, and importantly, without much turnover. The kinds of yards ran by families who saw the value in old cars nobody wanted anymore, who have allowed them to slowly be reclaimed by the earth. A junked car in the quiet woods on a cold day is one of the most peaceful places you can be. Just like visiting the headstone of a family member you’ve heard about but you never got to meet, finding a car from decades gone by sitting among the leaves and trees speaks out to you with no noise. You don’t get to see things like the day it left the lot with gleaming chrome and proud new owners. You couldn’t be there for the road trip across the country with the whole family piled in. You certainly weren’t there for that one August night where a midnight drive may have saved a troubled soul, but you can surely be there as the weary bones rest, little more than wind rustling through the dry leaves and your own breathing heard for miles.

Sean from Urban Hillbilly Video went and checked out John’s Auto Salvage in Cabool, Missouri, a lot that is close to fifty years on in age. This is the kind of place that we could spend all day at, without the need to be there for an item. The funny part of this? We’ve driven by this area several times in the last couple of years and never knew this treasure chest was just out of sight! We might have to swing in next time…

You would have been amazed if you went to John’s 10 year’s ago, they have crushed and sold a lot since then.
