As I celebrate the fifth anniversary of ownership of the Chrysler 300C that you know as Angry Grandpa, I found something highly disturbing on Facebook for sale courtesy of Dave Bernheimer. Dave is a guy who I first met when I had my 2005 Mustang put under his paint gun to give it Mach 1 credentials that Ford never saw fit to give it themselves. And, in a sick way, what you are about to see here kind of coincides with that bit of information, because thanks to Dave, I’m looking at a late-model Chrysler and a Mustang. All in one.
According to the ad, what you are looking at exactly is a 1970 Ford Mustang mounted on the running gear of a right-hand-drive 2008 Chrysler 300C SRT-8. At first glance I’m suspecting that the inspiration for the build was the “Anvil” 1969 Mustang, better known as the car squished by a tank in Fast and Furious 6. Separately, each car is worthy: the SRT-8 is a banker’s hot rod and has enough down-low torque to get stupid on command, and if I have to explain why a 1970 Mustang is good…get out.
What happened next is something to behold. The best way I can explain it is like this: you wanted to see if an Easter bunny could really lay eggs, so you took a hen, added a lot of force and…well…combined them. I will say that I’m impressed that the beast runs, but as far as anything else? You be the judge.
Aw c’mon Bryan – this bunny hasn’t been infected with the dreaded LS virus!
Wait. What? It’s not April 1st yet, is it?
Like some people say, kill it with fire.
I’m not opposed to the idea in principle. The execution doesn’t look right, though.
looks like a cartoon. Awful execution, just….awful. I
That’s an awkward trip to the parts store.
FUGLY!!!
Ohmigod. I’m gonna cry.
That’s almost as bad as the Prius Firebird mashup.
