Kitschy art-cars usually suck. They’re more about visual gags than anything else, and half of them only run long enough to be moved from the garage to the trailer, to the spot on the grass where they park. Most aren’t legal to drive on any roadway we know of and most are blatantly obnoxious in our eyes. But sometimes, rarely, you’ll find someone who actually cares enough about the project to put one together correctly. And to make an art-car road legal, useful, reliable and actually kind of decent to drive…that takes someone special.
Kevin Nicks is the man behind “Fastest Shed”…a nickname that’s legitimate, since he has the world land speed record for a shed, currently at 101.581 MPH at the Pendine Sands. Mostly a Volkswagen Passat with the engine of an Audi RS4, the shed is fully legal for use on British motorways (as what, an RV?) after dotting every “i” and crossing every “t” with the authorities over the course of a few months. The struggle appears to have been worth the trouble, because the shed looks genuinely comfortable inside. With Kevin and Kyle from 1320Video in the cockpit, it actually looks exceptionally comfortable, roomy, and it even sounds good on acceleration, too.
Now, prepare all of your “aerodynamics of a barn” jokes!
Hilarious, love it. The smiles per hour are endless…
Only in England! Good old eccentricity and sheer creativity shine through. I’m working on Ford Focus RS clad in a male cross-dresser’s fiberglass body and I’m going to take it drag racing.
