With the exception of the Powercruise USA events in Brainerd, Michigan, we haven’t seen a true Aussie-style burnout competition in the States. By that, we mean that we haven’t seen tip-ins, donuts or the semi-drifting semi-rolling burnouts that have been the calling card for such events as Brashernats, Summernats and Powercruise. At least, not until we found this video of the 2014 Mustang Week burnout contest, which was held at Myrtle Beach Speedway in South Carolina. Part of a week-long series of events that include drag racing, show and shine, dyno pulls and auto crossing, Mustang Week has hidden this little gem in the early part of the week. Some of these are weak sauce burnouts, but there’s a couple of guys in this group that would feel right at home on a skidpad on the other side of the world. The competition was tight between a few guys, but in the end there can only be one winner, and that was left up to the crowd to choose. We’d like to see more of these events around the country, but for now, there’s two for sure in the country!
Pretty cool but not Aussie cool
