Greg Stanfield may have driven more classes of drag car than any other current Professional driver. Starting off with Stock Eliminator back in the ’80’s Stanfield mad his way up the ranks through Super Stock, Comp Eliminator and Pro Stock before finally settling in his current class, Pro Stock. We recently got the chance to spend some time with Greg at the Pro Stock Showdown in Vegas where he told us about his new sponsor, Safety Sentry, his new car, and his plans to drive Top Fuel.
Stanfield has big plans, including the debut of he and partner Bob Yonke’s 2011 Camaro Pro Stock cars. According to your sources, the bodies are still pending final approval, but as soon as they are ready, Yonke and Stanfield will be running them. It’s been too long since we say a Camaro in Pro Stock, and we can’t wait.
One other goal of Greg Stanfields is to eventually race Top Fuel. We were surprised to hear it given Greg’s reputation as a driver. It’s often said that the long cars are much easier to drive than a Pro Stock car. Maybe he’ll move to Top Fuel when he’s considering retirement. Stanfield’s career includes multiple sportsman category National Championships, including 4 in Super Stock. His incredible talent continues today where he is considered to be one of the top “leavers” in the business. If you come up against Greg Stanfield, you better be quick on the tree or he’s going to own you.
