Certain things in life are inescapable truths. Volvo, regardless of who owns them, has always been hell-bent on making sure that every vehicle that carries their name is safe for anyone, anywhere, anytime. We know that no matter how safe they truly are, no vehicle will ever be 100% perfectly safe, so they must be tested to know for sure how they will hold up in an accident. We know that the more vigorous the testing, and the longer the vehicle survives, the better off the owners of said vehicle will be. And that the ultimate torture test of any product is best left to a four-year-old wielding total control over the object in question. Wait…what?!

Yes, Volvo actually put four-year-old Sophie Brown in charge of operating a Volvo FMX dump truck via remote-control in a cordoned-off gravel pit in Serbia. She had access to the steering, accelerator, brakes and the shifter and was told to have fun. Volvo’s goal was to see just how durable the FMX really is, and somewhere in Gothenburg, a safety engineer for Volvo Trucks nodded approvingly at the idea of torture-testing by child. Seriously, what could possibly go wrong? Well, if that crane swinging a crate of cement tells us anything…
