For the most part, dealership mechanics are the ones you want wrenching on your car. These are the guys and gals that grew up and wanted to be Mr./Mrs. Goodwrench. They loved to work with cars and trucks, wanted the experience and wanted to get paid for their time, so they wound up under a lift at the local new car dealership after some training. There they deal with over-promising service advisors, management sent straight from somewhere hot and evil, customers who expect their car to be fixed as if the mechanic has a magic wand in the toolbox (“Expecto Refurbisha! …%*@#, still broke”) and a paycheck that makes flipping hamburgers look positively awesome by comparison. I feel for dealership techs. I wouldn’t have the temper control to handle that scene.
But with this picture that came across my feed, I have to question one shop’s workers. I don’t want to say that a car falling off of a lift is a mild deal. It’s a pretty f***ed up day and usually ends with the words “You’re fired!” being yelled at the loudest possible volume. But there is a saying I learned years ago that fits here to a T:
If you are going to **** up, **** up so badly that they wonder how in the hell you did it.
With that, any guesses on how this poor Tahoe ended up like this??
“With that, any guesses on how this poor Tahoe ended up like this??”
3 martini breakfast?
Wow – having a car fall off a lift is one thing, having it fall off in two pieces is another! I’m guessing somebody completely missed the frame when they put it on a lift, and attempted to lift the truck by the body.
I see that the Tahoe is in the paint prep area, now is the time for a frame off restoration.
they were trying to do a custom body – drop
“For the most part, dealership mechanics are the ones you want wrenching on your car.” HAHAHAHAHA….no.
I saw this somewhere else on line and they said it was in for a frame replacement. If that is true, I’ll bet someone lifted the truck, took out the body to frame bolts, the body shifted ,and took the whole thing down.
From what I can remember, the owner of the 2 pc Tahoe was giving the choice of a new one on the lot.
YA THINK ?
Frame looks too good to be a rust issue, and it’s not a Toyota, so a frame replacement isn’t likely.
i read that too, frame swap.i bet management said no problem we can do that in record time on flat rate…..tech says to himself “f-you warranty dept….”
I am going with the following scenario – Frame swap, tech thought he had undone all the body bolts. Lowered the rack, and set the arms up to lift the body off the frame. Not all the bolts were removed, it became jammed. Mechanic was BS-ing with someone and not paying attention to what was going on, with back turned to lift but with hand on the trigger the body started to rise bringing the frame with it, the frame dislodged swinging down and to the right. With the bulk of the body’s weight towards the aft, it went nose up.
Yup, you’re going to fuck up alright…..just like the first line of this story
If its at a body shop the frame might be getting replaced because of Impact damage. Looks like one of the body bushings is laying on the floor with a mess of bolts.
I bet that made some awesome sounds falling down! Followed by the smell of the tech crapping his pants.
Shit’ll buff out.
Besides, look closely…. seems to be two wheel drive. No huge loss to the truck community in my opinion.
Lifted it by the body obviously. What happened from there may never be known
