This Boeing 737-800 is WestJet’s “Magic Plane”. A stunning collaboration of WestJet, WestJet Vacations and Disney Parks and Resorts (Canada), the 737 features Mickey Mouse as Sorcerer Mickey from Fantasia, lots of magical sparkles and swirls, fireworks and the Magic Kingdom Castle. It’s over-the-top, it’s eye-catching and it’s memorable…perfect for a design meant to promote WestJet’s involvement with Disney. They even serve special Disney-shape cookies on the flights, but that’s isn’t important here. What is important is just how a Boeing jet gets a custom, one-off livery that intricate, and that’s what this video shows. The numbers are what you’d expect: thirty-six separate paint colors were used for the plane, which took twenty-four days to complete using twenty-six people working all day, every day, around the clock to complete. This makes doing tape graphics look like child’s play.
