In the last two decades, the Dutch have made a couple of bids to enter the sports car realm. The first came from Spyker, a firm that built high-performance sports cars and even competed in Formula 1 with a Ferrari-engined car. The other Dutch builder was Saker, who built a small run of closed-top sports racers available with a variety of powerplants for not a lot of money. The Saker GTs raced in a spec series as a class of the Dutch Supercar Challenge and some were even raced elsewhere. The Sakers no longer race very much, although one still competes in the Hankook 24H series with a Volkswagen/Audi V10 diesel.
A very few of them were imported to the United States and one of those few is for sale near Chicago for $49,000. The car comes with the engine and transaxle from a Subaru WRX that should be good, the seller claims, for 275 horsepower in a chassis that weighs well under a ton. While it’s not as nutso as the 500 HP V10 version that races in the 24H races, that kind of power-to-weight ratio should give this right-red Saker GT plenty of good.
With the Subaru engine option ticked, the Saker is capable of 0 to 60 times of 3.4 seconds. Is it worth $50K? That’s a good question. A used Radical SR3 offers similar performance capability and can be bought for similar money, so it seems to be a fair price, though the Saker gets you a closed top and eligibility in a number of racing series. That might even include the 24H Series, which is coming to Circuit of the Americas next November for a 24-hour race.
But, you couldn’t run at any of the
ECTA events, as it only has 4 lug nuts/studs per wheel..
oy vey.
Here is looking at You Keith Turk
So who said it had to race in the USA? A prime contender for British GT, hill climbs or sprints. I’m sure there’ll be a buyer from our shores as this is a fair price for a sorted car and engine combo.
