Don’t look at this first-gen Toyota MR2 and just see a wide body kit. You’d be doing this car a disservice. Instead, you should know about it’s running gear and why this little four-wheeled wedge could replace an adrenaline shot to the heart.
In factory form, the first-gen MR2 at it’s best was good for 145hp out of the supercharged four-cylinder, and for the 1980s it was a sprightly little two-seater. But who is satisfied with only 145hp? In this case, a company called Woodsport used a 340hp Audi 4.2 V8 and six-speed transmission to give the first-gen MR2 one serious attitude adjustment. This particular car was built for the purpose of being a hill climb or sprint race car, but the owners are backing out of the project due to time reasons. This V8 MR2 has a half-cage and a set of Porsche 996 brakes all around, so other than a once-over to make sure everything is in order, you’d be set up with a hilariously quick rocket of a sports car. We’d have to do something about that body kit, however.

The AW11 MR2 is one of the funnest cars I have ever had the pleasure to drive. Its quick, but not get yourself into jail fast. It handles beautifully, and fits like sitting in a glove.
The addition of the Audi V8 is nothing new to this chassis, but this is a very nice example. One I would love to get my hands on, since I am an Audi guy.
