This S2000-powered 1966 Sunbeam Minx Project Is Awesome And Homebuilt!

When Dennis Rannebeck warned us that digging into this project thread from 67-72ChevyTrucks.com would potentially be a late-night read, he knew what he he was saying. I, however, shrugged off his warning and started reading about Mike Dempsey’s 1966 Sunbeam Minx Series IV. A clean little classic car when he bought it, it started out as a simple clean-up-and-drive project and evolved into something way, way more involved.

After tooling the Minx around for a bit as-is, Dempsey decided that the little British car could use a good swift kick in the hind quarters, and after reviewing a few options, he settled on a Honda F20C and six-speed package…better known as the 9,000RPM four-banger found in the Honda S2000. Supporting the car would be a modified version of the S2000’s front suspension, while out back a Jeep DJ-5’s Dana 44 is supported with an Art Morrison four-link system.

The Minx’s conversion was completed, and in the video below, you’ll get to hear it on one of it’s first drives. Would that be enough? Nope! Dempsey has blown the Minx apart for paint, and it’s in the middle of final bodywork before the little screamer gets a fresh coat of paint to compliment the rest of the upgrades. Take a look at his build thread…just make sure you have the time to go through it all!

That looks like a fun ride. Those F20Cs are a pretty sweet piece, held the hp-per-liter record for a while. Explains why they still trade hands for so much money. I’d love to put one in my Miata.

Very nice! My brother and I are always finding cool little cars like that, like Morris Minors, and thinking how cool they’d be with something like an SRT4 Neon mill…
