The B&B Classics guys put up a video of their bitchin 1972 Nova running around the famed Rolex 24 Road Course at Daytona International Speedway during the recent USCA Optima Search For The Ultimate Street Car event, and it gives you an awesome perspective of what it’s like to go around this amazing race track. While their for the event, shooting TV shots, I got to drive the track with some cars at only about 80 miles per hour, but unfortunately I was behind the wheel of a rental mini van with sniveling TV cameramen on board. They weren’t too keen on my rolling into NASCAR turn 3 at 90 mph like I did with them in Texas a couple months ago, so we played it safe. It’s too bad, because I would have loved to have been out there dicing it up with the big boys.
In this video you’ll see the Nova overtake a bunch of cool cars, including veteran BangShifter Mike Copeland behind the wheel of the Lingenfelter Performance Engineering C7 Corvette. Mike told us after his first session that he was going over 140 mph through the middle of NASCAR 3 and 4 and decided that was the exact speed he was comfortable with going, and so he just held the peddle steady. We know the Lingenfelter prepped Corvette had a lot left in it, and were only disappointed that the TV crew wouldn’t let me have a few minutes off to go make some laps in it after Mike offered. I’ll get my chance at Road America, where I’m going to be making laps in a couple cars.
