(Photos by Mike Burghardt) – Mike and Jeff Burghardt have submitted some awesome drag racing and sprint car photos to us here at BangShift but this is the first time we have seen the sport of NASCAR through their lenses and they sure did an awesome job covering guys going right and left as opposed to either straight or left all the time! Since they sent so much great stuff, we’re going to bust it up and highlight Mike’s contributions in this gallery today and then we’ll show Jeff’s stuff tomorrow and the next.
NASCAR has been competing on road courses for ages and since the very first time they tried there are two very distinct camps of drivers. There are the ones who love it and the ones who loathe every freaking second of it. You can normally tell who is who by where they finish on the results sheet and this year it was Carl Edwards topping them all, taking his first win at the famed California multi-use racing facility. Sonoma is one of the races we normally check off on the calendar to make sure we watch because there are always some gutsy moments of passing and strategic driving due to the course layout and the desperation of some racers to claw up in the pack late in these races.
This gallery is filled with great photos that give you a sense of speed, a sense of intensity, and a sense of just how close these boys are running together. I’ve seen Spec Miata races spread further apart and these guys are manhandling the cars around like you read about the whole time. There are lots of great photos of cars on two wheels and vying for position in the corners. You may not like NASCAR going in circles but if you can’t be entertained by them turning left and right as wells as hammering the gas and the brakes you need to take another look!
