Just when you hear how awful the economic condition of the world is and how we’re all broke, news like this comes out. Some rich lunatic paid a total of $984,000 for a movie prop racing suit that Steve McQueen wore during the filming of the movie Le Mans in 1971. Hey, Steve McQueen was a heck of a cool dude, but no one’s dirty laundry is worth nearly a million dollars.
Le Mans was going to be McQueen’s Opus. A tribute to racing on a grand scale and his follow up to the massive success that the movie Grand Prix had been years earlier. Unfortunately, it didn’t do what he expected in the theater mainly because it was too much about racing. Lots of actual footage from Le Mans was used in the film. It is a great watch if you are a gearhead, but not so much if you are just a regular moviegoer out for a night on the town.
Anyway, some guy who lights his cigars with $100 bills and probably got his head swirled in the toilet during high school bought Steve McQueen’s old clothes for nearly a million bucks. What a county.

This just proves that in any economy, there will always be available money for someone to spend stupidly.
I’m willing to bet that said McQueen geek has been wearing his new duds around the house just like a six year old with his Spiderman costume.
