Is it just strange enough to be cool, or just weird enough to avoid? I’ve been wrestling with that question ever since I laid eyes on this 1942 Chrysler New Yorker. Part of me really likes the 3/4 ton Dodge frame, V8, and four-speed manual transmission. The seats, that look to be raided from a late 1970s LeBaron or Cordoba look comfy as well. And the fact that it runs and drives really makes me want to like it.
Then you get the blue paint job, the rest of the interior, which is gutted, and the overall roughness of the thing. To some, it might not be anything to worry about. To me, it’s just on the far edge of acceptability. If it were me, I’d paint it up to look like a Plymouth P-11 staff car from the early 1940’s, complete with period-correct olive paint and U.S. Army graphics, and give the motor (which is most likely a 360) a good build. Hmm…maybe that’s how it will work best, with a Patton helmet on, charging though the trails. At $1900, it would be a decent way to go.

Making a statement?
What about I am a sad deluded idiot and I should have my hands amputated so I can never create such a hideous monster again!
By the way happy festering season to all BangShifters – particularly any transplanted Geordies or those with Geordie roots!
Toon Toon black and white army!
Turning any car into a 4×4 makes no sense. If you need one (which most folks don’t) go buy one.
Where’s the fun in that?
I reckon I just ain’t a 4×4 fan.
Why am I thinking “rally car”?
Looks like it could be from Cuba?
