Best of BS 2015: Wild Dyno Video: Watch This Screw Blown, Hemi Based Diesel Engine Roar And Fill The Shop With Soot!

(By Jason Mazzotta) – There are cool dyno videos, and then there are COOL dyno videos, and this fits into the COOL dyno video category. A screw blown 511 Hemi in a Chevy pick-up, converted to run on diesel is up on the dyno to make a pull, and the group lets it eat to say the least. The amount of smoke pouring out of the zoomies when the driver flattens it could knock out any Prius owner within five miles of the shop, and is certainly a tell-tale that the Brad Anderson based engine is making some incredible power.

Curt Halvorson, the diesel guru from Extreme Engine Development in Calgary, Alberta is behind the strange and completely awesome engine. The screw blown Brad Anderson Hemi is sitting in Brian Spooner’s “Blown Smoke” Chevy pickup that runs in the NHRDA’s Pro Stock class.

The truck is fired up, and running on the dyno at low RPM’s for a while until about 1:08 where Havlorson, on the right, drops his arm signaling the driving to drop the hammer, and let the smoke out commence. An incredible amount of black smoke pouring from the pipes fills the door of the shop almost instantly even with the fans set up by the front tires of the truck. While I couldn’t find any official numbers, Halvorson and the group were looking for north of 2,500 horsepower from the beast of a truck.
